Mobile SIM’s and FirstCall Fair Use Policy

An activated nano-SIM card is required for the FirstCall mobile alarm pendant.

The Options for providing the nano SIM are:

  1. Use a FirstCall supplied and maintained SIM which uses the full Telstra 4GX/4G/3G networks. FirstCall will charge you on a yearly basis for the SIM and the usage over the “Fair Use” limit. The alarm will come fully set-up with your contacts phone numbers.

  2. Use your own pre-SIM card. You will need to open the pendant and insert your own nano-SIM. Just like any pre-paid SIM account you will need to register the SIM and check the usage and account balance from time to time. FirstCall cannot manage a pre-paid SIM for you, You will also need to set-up your contacts phone numbers as shown in the user manual.

Before you purchase a FirstCall 4GX mobile alarm pendant it is important to check the mobile phone coverage in your area. You can do this for the Telstra network by clicking on the button below. Enter your street address and any area you regularly travel to.

The FirstCall Supplied SIM

FirstCall 4GX mobile alarm pendants use the full Telstra 4G and 3G mobile phone networks - serving over 99.4% of the Australian population, and with the best coverage in rural areas. 4GX is a longer range 4G service operated by Telstra.

The pendants have a SIM card inside them which is active for 12 months from the dispatch date from FirstCall. You have the added peace of mind knowing that the SIM card will never run out of credit or need to be recharged during this period.

Prior to the end of each 12 month period FirstCall will notify you by Email and offer an account renewal for a further 12 months. If you choose to pay the renewal fee we will reactivate the account for a further 12 months.

The SIM renewal fee is for a full years activation. This includes call and text credit in accordance with the Fair Use Policy (see below).

If you do not require the FirstCall SIM you can insert your own nano-SIM card, but you must not remove the FirstCall SIM without prior authorisation from FirstCall. You must not use the FirstCall SIM card in any other device. Due to the wholesale pricing arrangements for medical alarms, unauthorised usage in another type of device could become very expensive. FirstCall monitores SIM usage. If unauthorised usage is detected FirstCall will cancel the SIM immediately and send you an account for any excess usage.

Should you not require the medical alarm any more, just let us know, and we will deactivate the FirstCall SIM. Unfortunately, we cannot refund unused portions of the yearly SIM account.

Please read our Fair Use Policy below.

Fair Use Policy

FirstCall is able to provide a very low-cost yearly-renewable SIM account based on the assumption that a Medical Alarm pendant will only make emergency calls and texts, and occasional test calls. You must only use the FirstCall Medical Alarm pendant in the event of an emergency, or for occasional testing purposes. You may receive any number of incoming phone calls that are not reverse-charged back to you.

You must not remove the SIM card without prior authorisation from FirstCall and you must not use the SIM card in any other device.

Excessive usage is considered to be any type of call or text message related to anything other than an emergency or test event, or more than 40 activation’s per year, or in the unlikely event that the total call cost exceeds the yearly fee.

In the event we identify excessive usage we notify you and charge you for the excessive usage. The excessive usage charge will be based on the rate charged from time to time by the wholesale SIM provider. Notification may be by Email or phone or in writing.

If the Fair Use issue is not resolved, or if an account remains unpaid more than 21 days following notice to you, or if we have reasonable grounds to believe the SIM card has been removed and used in another device, we may deactivate the SIM without further notice. If we do this the pendant will not work.

If you intend to do anything which is likely to increase the rate of calls or text messages, say by increasing the frequency of GPS tracking or by using the pendant for making outgoing calls of a general nature, you should contact FirstCall to discuss alternative SIM options which will be more cost effective.
